HGTV is a tool of Satan

I might be using hyperbole here, but satan controls HGTV. For me it's one show in particular, House Hunters. It's not the fact that the couples work part-time at a daycare and are baristas with a budget of 1.3 million dollars. Although, that is terribly annoying. It's not the obsessions with open concept houses, although that's annoying too. It's the fact that it makes me materialistic. It awakens desires in my heart that have laid dormant for a long time.

James 2:14-15 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin and sin when it is full grown, brings forth death.

Of course I'm joking about satan being the president of HGTV. The bible has a way of giving us no scapegoat when we sin. Sin isn't outside of us, it's within us. We could go to an island away from all temptation, including HGTV, and still we'd be sinners. When we say things we shouldn't it's not somebody else's fault.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

James 4:1 Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from YOUR DESIRES for pleasure that war in YOUR MEMBERS?

We want to isolate sin outside of ourselves, but it lurks within. The solution isn't a new cable show, it's a new heart. I could stop watching and that might be wise but it would be stopping short. It would be nothing more than behavior modification. It would be treating the symptoms and not the disease. The real problem isn't HGTV it's the worldliness that dwells in my heart. With the show gone, the worldliness will still remain. Christianity looks at the heart, we would do well to do the same.
