Controlling the Tongue
Over the last couple of weeks God has been graciously showing me what an idiot I am. I say graciously because God disciplines those whom He loves. Most of my idiocy revolves around the things that come out of my mouth. Sometimes my speech careless and thoughtful, sometimes my speech is rude and insensitive, sometimes my speech is dirty and vulgar, and sometimes my speech is gossipy. I was convicted this morning anew as I read the 21st chapter of Proverbs. I wanted to share the conviction with you all so I'm going to share the verse that got me and a few others for good measure.
Proverbs 21:23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles
Luke 6:45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks
James 3:10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
Proverbs 15:1-2 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours out utter foolishness.
Have you had enough? Thank God for Jesus. Thank God when He could have spoken hatefully or rudely He chose not to. Thank God He chose right for all of the times I choose wrong. Thank God for forgiveness.
