Fight Fire with Fire
19th century US settlers were seeking to find a way to combat large fires. They developed a plan of setting smaller, controlled fires hoping to prevent larger ones by depriving them of fuel. Thus, they fought fire with fire.
This concept reminds me of Solomon's instructions to his son in Proverbs 5:15-19
15 Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well. 16 Should your springs be scattered abroad, streams of water in the streets? 17 Let them be for yourself alone, and not for strangers with you. 18 Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, 19 a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated[a] always in her love.
In chapter 5 Solomon is warning his son about the dangers of adultery and the "forbidden" woman. Solomon's advice on how to avoid this woman is to fall madly in love with your wife. His son is encouraged to have a healthy sex life with his wife to rejoice in her, to let her breasts fill you at all times with delight. Thank God for the bible!
There are a lot of wise things you can do to affair proof your marriage, but the wisest might be to invest in it physically, spiritually, and emotionally. When you do that there won't be fuel for the larger fires that cause all sorts of destruction.
